There is a thread on how to do this in General Tech and How To's.

you should also note that those bikes have a recall on their charging system. Assuming that you have never changed anything, you will need to change the flywheel, stator, and possibly the recitifier. Honda was doing them free to all owners, I dont know if that is still going on. Just a heads up that it is very common on those bikes

I think the recall was an extension for 5 years in addition to the factory warranty. If thats correct, then your bike should still be covered. Call a dealer and give em your vin number. they should be able to assist from there. If its covered, they should be able to have you in and out relatively quick. Its not a long process.

Ditto ! I had the same bike with the same problems and had to change the stator and the rectifier. They tend to go at or around 10-15k miles as I think mine at the time about 18k miles so it held on for a bit. After the replacements were completed, it was running so sweet even with all the miles. Good luck !

You need to go back to your dealer and have them call Honda, i have a 04 and the stator went out 3 weeks ago and i called them they said yes its covered bring it to us. I just got it back last week. Your dealer lied to you and if you need more resources PM me and i will get you the info.
