I had an FZR 400 that ran fine when the fuel tap was in the ON position but if you blasted for 20 seconds or so it spluttered & died, With the tap in the RESERVE position this did'nt happen.

Unfortunatly it was stolen after a few weeks so i never found the culprit but i suspected a mucky filter on the tap inside the tank.

Yours may be similar as you say its ok utill 7k rpm.

Iv just re-read the thread & you say it started after the oil change, maybe youve nipped or pulled one of the breather/overflow pipes that exit near the sump. Prob not but somthing else to check.

I have not done a compression test to her, proboly will here in the next week or so. Also with the oil change all I did was drain and refill, no filter change or anything wierd. I really think its electrical or fuel, because it it like it looses power when at WOT over 7k, but if I am just below WOT no problems. Thats why I was thinking the Petcock(it does it on reserve as well) could be going out, or as some one suggested get hotter plugs, cause I have one NGK and 3 champions. Or maybe the plug wires need attention, or the Coils. Not sure but I am glad everyone is helping! Mike

My local Advanced Auto stocked NGK DPR8EA-9 plugs and the 9's also.
I would think that NAPA would have them too.

Hey:

Did you add the seafoam yet, as that may help if its any fuel issue, also check the bikes grounding points and make sure they are not rusty or cracked. Also a simple overlooked thing that can cause higher RPM problems with a factory air box. Is do both of the rubber intake tubes on the airbox have the plastic seperators in them ? As they can collapse without them, choking the air intake off. Make sure both are installed properly. Good Luck and keep up the effort it will pay off.

Ace fix..... and so simple.
Is there any chance that one of you could put up a pic of these separators for reference.
I'm not quite clear what we're talking about.
Ta!
Well done for your perseverance Outlaw. You must be relieved to say the least.

Henry, if you pull one of your side covers, under there you will see the black soft rubber intakes that feed the air box. On the side facing out you will see the square holes that the "h" shaped separator sits in.

Sliding a piece of PVC in should do the same job if anyone is missing one.
