okay indy ....... 12 volt socket .....sprocket style with usb
Location chosen for pitch of plastic .....(no water can sit) and proximate
to magnetic tank bag where eventually mobil phone and GPS will reside
more about that later. Also enough depth at that spot to accept the socket
and wiring.
Materials :
Marine 12 volt waterproof socket (SeaDog) , heat shrink pre soldered wiring connectors with in line fuse.
One Belkin (stubby / short) Micro USB plug.
What ya think ? Look good ?

Yeah pritty happy with it, low key , not obtrusive......suttle and best of both worlds
full 12v plus lil' low pro usb insert.......works !.......plan came together nice
Used a step drill bit used for electrical work to bore/drill the fairing ( the nervy part ! )
Belkin Part # F8Z445
SeaDog Deluxe Socket
pull fuse under seat......when parked = 's ....no worries.

Fitted right above the radiator and one of the hottest spots on the bike.
Sorry Sprock - not a good idea.
I'd have put it on the left side, near the fuse box, where it's cooler, and you can fiddle with it on the move if you have to.
Nce job of fitting it, and clever gizmos for the USB stuff though.
You asked for an opinion -

matter of opinion
Nah , it's back far enough from the hot spot there Pete, in fact the two +/-
connectors straddle where the thermostat cable is, so if there is a chance
of it melting or anything then the thermostat cable will too and that has not
happened in the last twenty years ............ Picked my spot and happy with it.
Did not want it on the clutch side either as it's easier to make on the move
changes on the throttle side in my opinion...... & ya still get to squeeze the clutch ..... for the unexpected.
But there ya are each to their own.....as you said
Nice shiny metallic paintwork though eh ??
