Default Weak point?

Got caught out nice the other day. Decided to take the missus out for a run since it was a nice evening. Got about 5mls from home, coming off a roundabout accelerating up thru the gears, 4th, 5th, , , , damn it, where's my gear lever gone.....
I managed to shear the gear lever's pivot bolt. Simple fix once I limped back to a mates house in 2nd, but maybe worth carrying a spare one and some pliers to make a temp fix. Anyone else had this happen or was I just unlucky?

Id say unusual and unlucky, too!

I was just adjusting mine last night, and actually thought it looked pretty solid. lol...

I hate the way adjusting it one spline makes such a big difference, though. I ride to work in these big steel-toe boots, and I need the room. However, I have to lift my whole dam leg when downshifting. Then in my regular shoes, I gotta lift my whole leg to upshift. PITA. Just no happy medium.
I usually adjust it on friday evening and again on monday morning... lol

BTW, you must have legs of steel to shear that bolt. That thing doesn't appear weak by any means... Must have been faulty, I'd say..

Similar happening here. Went to downshift for a curve and couldn't find the shift lever. The bolt had backed out and the lever was hanging from its linkage. Luckily the bolt was still in the lever, so it was merely a matter of screwing it back in. Once home I cleaned the old thread lock out of the threads, put new red thread lock on, and put it back on.

After this I'll make it a point to put a wrench on once in a while to check it.

Hey Mo...yu not meant to kick the chit outta it mate .. !! ...LOL
Lol...
I don't think I could break that pivot bolt if I tried. I'd definitely need a hammer. It had to be faulty...

Mo, was it a clean flat break? What did it look like? I bet the break was pretty ugly (all pitted and weak looking?)
