Default Want to purchase a Jet Kit .... but which one?

Hi All

I am planning to fit a Jet kit on my 1000 F. First I don't know what it is or have absolutely no idea about it.

I would appreciate if some of you riding bros would enlighten me on the subject matter ie. what exactcly it is and what reccomendations on settings, brands etc.

Cheers

A carb kit normally consists of

8 main Jets (4 for Std pipes and 4 for aftermarket pipes)
4 x Lighter Springs
4 x Tapered Adjustable Needles
1 x Mixture Screw adjustment Tool For Earlier Model CBR's

Some kits also include Emulsion Tubes and Pilot Jets but none do for the CBR that I have seen.

After using one I am not a big fan of the Dynojet ones as their Jet Numbering doesn't match anyone else.

From what I have read on googling the Factory Pro seems to be better. They also offer Titanium as well. If you have the $$$ get the emulsion tubes replaced as well.

I'm using a DynoJet kit and after much messing about, and re-fitting the original springs (something in between would be perfect I think), I'm happy with it. However I wouldn't say there is'nt something better out there.
If I had my time again I would probably have left my bike standard, but I like the way it sounds now, and once you mess about with anything you find you need to keep going!
Dave.

I installed a dynojet kit when I installed my V&H pipes because it came free with the bike purchase. I bought 115 jets because I was still running too rich (6,000 ft). After install my mileage went from 42 to 30. I took the Dynojet needles that were at the highest clip and reinstalled the stock needles, back to 42 mpg. I then started noticing a hickup when shifting gears at hard throttle - took out dynojet springs and put back stock springs, hickup gone. I used nothing from the kit, my experience is to leave things well alone unless you are running rich or lean, in which case just buy appropriate jets from your dealer.

I have heard several people have destroyed their carb, when using titanium kits, one of my friends had to buy new carbs.
The reason is, that the needle are not 100% smooth but a little rough, so they wear out the pipes the needles runs in very fast.
This is confirmed by a motorcycle mechanic as well.

Thanks all for the replies

Actually I don't even know what a jet/carb kit even looks like. got any pics?

I always thought that a jet kit is like a box similar to a power comander.

I was also told that the after installing the Jet/carb kit you need to put it on a dyno to get the correct adjustments/settings. Can anyone confirm this?

Cheers

Have you recently installed an aftermarket full exhaust? you are at sea level, this is the only reason one would mess with a jet kit.

The jets are in the carbs. They are a removable; brass part with an opening that lets gas enters the carburetor. There is also a needle that inserts or pulls out of the main jet that controls how much gas is allowed to enter the carb based on demand. A jet kit consists of 4-jets and 4-needles.
The jet kit can have larger or smaller holes in the main jet with matching needles.

If you are running rich (black soot in pipes and need to down size) or lean (white in pipes and need larger size), you should rejet.

The normal color is darkish gray.

Jet choice is based on engine modifications and altitude.

If the bike runs good now, rejetting it will make it run like crap.
