Default Starting problems

It seems that my CBR has some problems building compression to fire the engine. It takes up to 5-7 attempts to get her started, with choke on and no additional gas (don't wanna flood her). Once started, she idles just barely shy of dying again. Then a little twist on the throttle and she idles higher/better. However, after riding for a while and then parking for a little, she fires right up and idles well. Seems to be related to a warmed up engine?
This also seems to find its continuation in low speed traffic, 1st & 2nd gear, where my CBR is behaving a bit choppy.
I'm not sure if it's really a compression problem, i just read the forums here and seems like a logical explanation.

What's your idea?

Carb work? Carb cleaner additive to the fuel? With 2 left hands, I'm challenged in typing this up, let alone working on the bike

Any and all help is greatly appreciated

take your idle up to 1200rpm when the bike's warm.
These bikes don't like a slow idle.
