Default Starter chain tensioner needed

Hi folks,

Does anyone have a starter chain tensioner for a 1988 CBR 1000 F-J or K? Or do you know of a good breaker / dealer in the UK that might have one?

If you look at Bikebandit.com website at their exploded diagrams, it's on the Generator page and part no 7. As you can see their list goes 4,5,6,8,9.......

http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmot...e-1988/o/m2025

I'm in the UK but will pay a reasonable price, both for the part and for shipping from elsewhere in the world...

I've been offered complete engines but don't really want to buy a whole one for a tensioner!

Regards,

PCGuru

Try Bikebreakers or Gogetmule on e-Bay UK.
Davidsilverspares or Wemoto on the net.

A Forum member, Aracanth, was looking to dispose of some engine bits......PM him

Considering the amount of wear on these units I'd be looking for a new one. I broke two in two years.

The part is listed on Mr. Cycles, see here:

Thanks for the replies, folks.

WeMoto quote that the part has been discontinued by Honda....but since it's the bit that keeps breaking I find that unusual, if not annoying!

Will see what shipping costs are for the one from MrCycles and make a decision. Might be cheaper to get the whole lump from the UK!

I just put one in my 88 a month ago and it was still a stock item at my dealer. If you want to give them a call and see if they can still get them. The # is (859)253-0322 The name of the place is Lexington Motorsports in Kentucky. Hope this helps.

Ta for the further input, folks.

Got this reply from David Silver Spares here in the UK:
HelloThank you for your e-mail.Tensioner, 28170-MM5-640 - to order from Honda @ £64.46, or we can order with our discount and 2-3 week delivery @ £48.35.If you wish to order please send the full engine and frame numbers.RegardsGerryPrices exclude VAT @ 17.5% (if applicable) and postage
Got to check whether there is VAT on that price or not - if not it starts to get more expensive! Strange that they can get one but Wemoto say they're not available.I've been offered a complete bottom end for £50, plus the postage (which wouldn't be cheap in itself), or a complete engine for £120 delivered. I don't really want a whole engine, I've got a spare (minus the adjuster, cylinder head & cam chain parts) in bits in the garage already.
Basic decision is do I go for a new one or risk another 2nd hand.....

I've just emailed a Manchester Honda dealer to see what they say as well.
