Default Speedo correction

I've noted that several board members have changed their final drive ratio. My '93 speedo drive is taken off the primary sprocket. Any change in ratios will change my speedo's calibration.

Have any of you found how to change the speedo drive to compensate for the sprocket change?

Hey Shadow, If I recall correctly you said you dropped down two teeth on your front sproket? I assume you left the rear sproket unchanged. What sort of percentage change in the speedo reading do you now see from stock gearing?

Around 12% over, and given that our speedo's are 10% over to start, the speedo becomes a bit of a time-waster. I've taken it back to stock at 17/42 now, too much stress on the chain, sprockets, my wallet, and my nerves - damned thing becomes a wheely machine !
HARDCORP runs a 14/46 ratio when he wants to outrun the GSX100R's off the line- and does !!

Yes it is possible to alter your speedo.

Go to an instrument place and you can buy a speedo gearbox that plugs inbetween the end of your cable and the speedo. Inside the gearbox is 2 teethed gears that are available in difference sizes etc. 90% 95% 105 % 110% etc.

I purchase them from VDO for trucks so I dont see why you cant get one for bike cables. However they are bulky so space may be a problem.

Thanks for all the replies. You've confirmed whay I suspected. And Gill, I did a search. Perhaps I didn't use the right search term but all I got was the fix for the electronic speedos.
