A snapping sound when braking
I'm not sure yet, Gill - I'll take the bearing sizes to my local "Bearing Man" and see what they have to offer, and at what price. I think the tapered bearing is the way to go, though....
Anyone have suggestions/comments ?
and as for "Jokester"..........

Im wondering how many miles/Kilometers Honsuheikkihas on his Cane? You'll may as well do the fork seals to while you have it all apart. I have a friend who has the proper tool to measure the correct "drag" that is suppose to be applied on the steering. Not many mechanics set it but it is recommended. Perhaps this was Danial_ARP's problem?? Seems to me if a bearings pre-load is set and the races are all seated properly, there should be no adjustments afterwards. Also, if your using tapered RB's make sure you pack them full of grease before installing them.....
Gill, I have 120.000 km on my bike. It was imported from Germany in 2000 without any documentation about service history. So, it might be possible that the bike has 220.000 km on it, but I highly suspect not. Yesterday I tightened the bearing like Shadow1 advised, and it seems to have helped. The steering also got slightly stiffer but the difference is hardly notable.
This morning is a very beautiful spring morning in Finland. I am on a business trip, heading to meet a customer 160 km from myhometown. I decided to go on a bike since there will be too much driving in the car for me - 60.000 km annually. I am looking forward to seeing the customers face when he is expecting a suit-and-a-tie-guy and in comes a biker... haha
Sipping coffee at Shell station right now.
Life is good when the bike season starts!
