95K kms is not high for these engines, so long as it has been serviced even half heartedly.

The cam chains always rattle on these engines, I wouldn't be too concerned.

She looks really straight and original. personally I think you scored yourself a bargain.

Good luck.

First quick and dirty test: only 6-7 bar compression on Cyl 1 with little bit of oil put in plug hole. Carbs not connected and engine totally cold…

I will tear it apart…

Check the valve clearances first

Hi, clearances are in range. I cleaned the carbs in ultrasonic. Totally disassembled. Could start the engine. Runs smoothly.
Checked Cyl2, 10 bar.

since I already bought a gasket set, I will take the head apart. I like to know that I de-carbonated the valves and did the seats.

will come back
thx

Low-compression in #1 may be due to burnt-oil clogging rings due to using dino oil. Be sure to use only full-synthetic moto oil only. My VFR just passed 161K-km this year and runs as good as 1st day I bought it! I owe lots of that to using only full-synthetic its entire life. Many of these engines have gone over 600K-km!

Be sure to do good valve-job while you've got it apart so you won't have to take it apart again for long time! Cut upper & lower angles to make contact seat at narrow end of range. Along with setting valve-clearances at high-end of range. Will give you best sealing that lasts longest. This is for newer model, should find specs for yours.

Most likely it's not mechanical issue, but electronic. Test for spark, probably isn't any. You'll want to measure for power going into ignitor, and into coils. Check out these threads for some ideas on where to start measuring:
