Default RPMs slipping under power

Hi guys,

'87 CBR1000F here, 40,000 miles - in second gear (or even third), the transmission seems to "slip" under high power. For example, in second gear at full throttle around 6-7k (right at the powerband), the bike will almost act as if you're engaging the clutch and it will redline at 10.5k. Needless to say it's a very scary thing when it happens.

Any ideas? Do I need clutch plates? Is the procedure for my '87 the same as the guide listed here:
https://cbrforum.com/forum/showthrea...ghlight=clutch

Thanks!

I'm also thinking it could be dirty clutch fluid. Is it hard to change?

the clutch has gone, seeing as it's only slipping in the power band you'll probably be alright just replacing the friction plates, there are 9 of them, the first one that goes in has a different part number than the other 8,so don't muddle them up!! remember to soak them in oil overnight before fitting.
good luck, it's a straight forward job.

Thanks mick - is the procedure the same as the one listed for the 93-96?
(listed here: https://cbrforum.com/forum/showthrea...ghlight=clutch )

And also, do you have to change the fluid when you change the plates out?

Don't forget to get a new oil filter too.
