Default rear tire width

Anyone put a 180 width tire on the back? Just wondering if it would fit. Not that much wider.

Sure, I've run a 180 since I bought the bike 9 years ago. It's a Mk2, so for that model which runs a 170 as factory spec the 180 is fine. The 87/88 Mk1 runs, I think a 150.
I'm told the 170 tyre on the mk2 will lean over with less effort, but most guys on here I think run the 180.

Yep, I run a 180 on the Mark 2 - and love the handling!

Cheers, SB

sorry i didn't put the year in. It is a 1991, and it has the 170 on the rear. I have a buy on a set that has the same front, and the 180 rear.

Got one on mine , expect it to potentially wear a v grove in the plastic chain guard
depending on brand and profile of tire other than that go for it

I run a 170 on the rear of my 94. May go to a 180 next time i dont know. I heard the bigger tire has a tendency to push the front in the corners. I ran a 160 rear on my 88 and could not tell a difference in the handling over the stock 150. So maybe the 180 over the 170 will not be noticeable.

Yeah, on the '91 the 180 is only 10mm wider. That is just 5mm per side. Many newer bikes run the 120 up front and a 180 in the rear. The 55 vs 60 ratio will give the same tire height as the 170 so no problem there. I switched to the 180 and never went back. There are more choices and better tires in the 120/180 set at better prices.

Mine looked a little tight so I pulled the guard and bent the tab a bit and now have clearance.

I ran a 180/55 on my old 1995 1kf and the 1993 i have recently bought already had one fitted - there is a slight groove worn on the inside of the chainguard - i guess the previous owner didn't think to bend the chain guard tabs!

I have never rode one with a 170 fitted so don't know what it'd be like.
