Default RE: Rear Tire Width

my bike has a 180/55/17 on the stock rear wheel. It was like that when i bought it. I HIGHLY recommend against using this size tire on the narrow rear wheel that our bikes have. The 180/55/17 tire is designed for a much wider wheel, so it fits TERRIBLY on the 4.5" rear wheel. I wouldnt use it on a 5" wheel either. 5.5" minumum.
I bought new tires, and went with the factory sized 160/70/17 for the rear which i will be installing tomorrow. I'm sure the bike will handle much nicer with the properly sized tires.

Oh, i should mention that the 180/55/17 tire that is on m bike is VERY close to the chain.

If You didn't want toupgrade Your rim, You could use a 170/60/17.
Anything bigger and the tire will no longer be round and wont look or ride correctly.
