Parts bike arrived today!

So it runs! lots and lots of smoke drifting serenely away down the drive! Note to self never run it with the fuel tap set to off. the fuel pump makes a very unhappy clicking sound. Still a petrol leak sending out a heap of fluid somewhere around the carbs. shut it down after i noticed petrol vapourising off the exhaust - and you wonder how people set light to the house somehow?
Having satisfied my primal urge to make it run, i am conscious it is occupying the space where my car goes. a $400 junker should not get better living conditions than my 10k car?
So I think i am going to tuck her away for now until i resolve the damper issue in my runner (black). At this stage I'm not going to part her out bur rather leave her there to feed the other one. at least until the black one is back on the road and i have a chance to decide if i want to restore her fully or partially.
Hope I've provided a moment or two of entertainment gents.

All you really need to do is
1 Disassemble the damper (remember the order)
2 Sand the metal and composite plates
3 Add a thin washer to give the plates more bite
4 Reassemble.
She'll be good to go - it's what I did. 2 years ago
Who's to say that the "parts bike" damper won't let go in 2 weeks ?
At least this way you KNOW what you have.
I know it's easy to talk but I have done this repair and it's not that difficult - I'm not any kind of mechanical genius..........but at the end of the day, they're your bikes - we can only advise. Best of luck with whatever you decide..............
Glad you had her back to life.

Yes it should - if it's a Hurricane LoL.

Shadow - i hear you and its only in the last week that i knew i wasn't getting a brand new damper. So yes now Im staring at the current one and will definitely pull it apart. SebastianBear has a mark 2 one and we are looking into whether that can fit. But rebuilding the current one is probably the way forward.
For now I've tucked the white one away, however next w/e i need to drain its coolant and swap the radiator off it back onto the black one.
I want to clean up behind the radiator a little before it goes back on.
All the other new parts i ordered - starter clutch and bearings have arrived and i hope to commence reassembly this week.
I'll document that in the thread i started when i had so much trouble removing the alternator.
cheers
