Default Oil change

Quick question: just got my hurricane a week from a relative, he didn't really tell me much in the way of service, he has though clearly looked after it though as it runs great apart from getting hot in traffic, though the fan does cut in. I have looked at the oil and was going to put fresh stuff in, change plugs and oul filter and air filter. Can I confirm, is it 10/40 semi synthetic oul about 4.5 litres. At least if I do all this now, I have a starting point. Any advice greatly relieved. Dan

The temp gauge will reach 3/4 scale before the fan kicks in, this is very normal for theses bikes.

You only need 3.8l for an oil and filter change - ie a 4l jug is plenty. The 4.5l is when newly assembled - which is not your case. 10W40 should be fine. Semi-synth, fully synth or mineral is a personal choice. I've recently plumbed for semi-synth Motul. Don't forget to run the engine for a couple of minutes and then check the level on the dipstick.
