Thanks for that okay what about the coolant for my old girl do I have to replace that at any given time she a 1992 CBR doesnt get hot and runs fine

I love 'what oil to use' threads. So many opinions, so fervently held. Personally I've been using Pennzoil in various weights in all my vehicles for years and years. Engines that have been torn down are clean as a whistle, no problems with oil. Others have the same luck with almost any oil they use as long as it meets specs. Go ahead and use Valvoline if you like it. It'll work for you. Just make sure it's changed regularly.

I dont remember if this is covered inte service manual, but if you dont know if and when it was changed, it could be a good time now. You can then drive for several years on the new colant. Colant is cheap and replacement of coroded engines is very expensive. I would change it every 4 to 5 years on a motorcycle, needed or not, to feel comfortable.

 

Because it is so cheap, I flush my radiator at the beginning of every summer. Its a 5min job so just do it.

 

OK big guy, try this out. Oil is slick stuff, when you put mollybenduilllemmmms (who cares how you say it) in oil it becomes more wear resistant. The 'molys' are long chain molecules. Transmissions of motorcycles, which share oil with the engine, tend to 'cut' these long chains into shorter ones due to shear forces. So...common sense says...put as many long chain molecule oils into your bike as possible. This menans...pure synthetic; Mobile 1 in my case. (15W50) It has served me well. I changed my oil today...affter 5000 miles, the color between the two (nerw and old) was nearly non-perceptable.
