Well i have a brand new plug in one of the wires and it siting on ground no spark at all. Heck i even held the spark plug as i turned it over nothing. Tried a wire from each coil too. I am getting power at the coils i am just not getting the pulse that fire the coil. this is why i think it is the ECU or pulse generator I have checked the wires connecting the two together and it is fine and i have tested my resistance on the pulse generator and that was fine. which is why i am more leaning in the way of the ecm!

Unfortunately the only spare ecu I have is from an 87 (I think), and I don't know if they are interchangeable.......(bought it on e-Bay and have never used it)
I'll try it this weekend in my Mk2 and if it fires up it should work in your Mk3 engine.
Stay tuned.......
