Default NO SPARK!!!

Hi guys.

Bikes been going good since the big swap, till the other day.

I jump started it with the help of a car battery and now I have no spark.

I've run the checks as per the manual but to no avail. I'm thinking i've fried something but not sure what.

Any idea's will be greatfully received.

All the fuses are ok, the gas is going through, the plugs are new ( just put the old/new onesback in as the iridiums had fouled up)

I'm running a Bestco brand battery but am replacing that with a better Yuasa brand one.

I'm starting to pull my hair out and don't wanna take it to the Honda stealer...opps, dealer...

Cheers.

I suggest that you wait until you have the new battery, need a full battery for sparks to be made on these bikes.

Thanks Dragon.

I'm also going to give the carbs a clean out too as the plugs were high on gas.

Has anyone tried using a drycell battery???? I'm thinking of these if I can get one the right size.

New 12V 22Ah AGM Sealed Lead Acid Batteries. Size is 178mm L (face) x 76mm W x 170mm H and weight is 7.1kg.
They have flat tab terminals with 5mm bolts and nuts.

These batteries have 30% more capacity than 17Ah batteries of the same size. Their maximum load is 220 Cranking Amps and Reserve Capacity is 25 minutes.

Made by Sunnyway Batteries, one of the largest and most successful battery companies in China, using the latest Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) construction. Model is SWE12220

These SLA motorcycle batteries are much better than 'wet' batteries because they're sealed and dry inside, so don't spill, don't need topping up and don't make any corrosion. They're also very resistant to vibration, a major cause of battery failure.

SLA batteries can also last 2 or 3 times longer than 'wet' batteries in starting applications as they don't get bad cells. They're ideal for seasonal use too and can be left for 6 months unused and then still operate normally, whereas 'wet' batteries will have died in that time.

Ideal for starting and running large 2, 3 and 4 cylinder motorcycles including BMW, Ducati, Harley Davidson, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Triumph and Yamaha.

Not a good pic sorry.

Thoughts?????

Cheers.

That drycell looks like a good idea !
Maybe try pulling a plug Barry, and seeing if there's any spark.
If weak, that's fine - poor battery
If no spark, maybe the ECU needs to be replaced..........?

Well after a long process of elimination the problem is the starter clutch/dampner thingee in the engine.

They put a second hand one in for the previous owner ( $2400 job all up)and its just slipping like mad. As it turns out the new one (that was on back order ) has arrived. Its a $400NZ retail part that i've picked up for $100.

So now to swap them over. With a bit of help from a mechanic friend and Kaska's info it should be a breeze.
Fingers crossed....

Hi Bazman - sorry to hear of the job you've got in front of you. There has been no comprehensive "HOW TO - WITH ALL THE PICTURES" on this. I hope you're going to do the deed and post your experience...... please....

I'll do my best.... lol...

I've just PM'd Kaska for anymore info/tips.

It sounds too easy.... I'm a tad nervous but gotta be better than the shop doing it.

We'll just take it nice and slow and i'm sure we'll be right.

Cheers.
