New camchain tensioner
I agree 100%. You get the Slinky effect of things pushing and pulling. The balancers and flywheels with their mass are spinning at a set rate but the crank,rods and pistons are jerking the chain.
I had presumed the nut had dropped into the sump as I figured if it had gone into somewhere it shouldn't have it would have seized the engine.
I've just spoken to a mate of mine who has HUGE experience - he says - you should balance the carbs every time you remove them from the bike. He says the bike is "fighting itself" at low revs, and this will cause the chains to "whip". Above 1400RPM NO noise, he says because there's more vacuum, and the higher revs seem to make the engine "smooth out" and therefore no chain rattle.
I'll be borrowing a carb balancing unit from this same mate, and I'll keep you up dated.
Until it's done, I'll keep the idle up a bit..........................

WHAT DID THIS MEAN & ACHIEVE?
1. The bike was more than 2 times (200%)outside the limits @ 65,000km.
2. The guages got within the limits @ 62%
3. The CarbTune Pro was easier to use, got better calibration and got within the limits @ 25%
4. Before the Sync I did not notice any degredation in bike performance.
After the Sync I did not "hear" any differance at idle (this surprised me).
After Sync there was a remarkable improvement in low speed torque/smoothness (well worth all my effort).
There was a slight lowering of normal bike temprature (cylinders working together / not fighting with each other).
There was no noticable differance in top speed/power (although I tested to top speed I could not tell any difference - which Im not surprised of.)

So the Gunson colour-tune is more accurate than a normal carb-balancer?
So would the 10mm or 12mm be needed?

Have not done it .........YET Steve.........but the way I read it is they don't necessarily
replace each other.......they are used in a complimentary fashion to achieve the ultimate
"smoother than a baby's **** idle".......so that non tensioned oil drive chain
don't be whipping about. I'd say you'd probably do fine just with the VAC Gauge
setup to balance (sync) the carbs the Gunson.......refines (tweaks) it that bit more
I'd use the Gunson before finishing off with the CarbTune

Last update on the primary rattle................
I used a set of analogue gauges to reset the carbs - what a pain in the azz !!!!!!!!!!!
Carbs were all over the place, but since I did the adjustment the rattle is down quite a bit and is rideable (at least for a while) - hope that's not famous last words
The idle is def not smooth though - must be some muck somewhere in the idler jetting - revs fine and smooth above 1400 revs.
I'll have to pay for a decent set of carb balancers soon - I think the Z1300 will be a real pig to set with an analogue setup.
So, balancing the carbs def does improve the "death rattle"
Now I just have to figure out a solution to the chain tensioner problem, and we'll be away to the woods !
Nobody I spoke to (technical mob) have ever heard of high temperature cable ties though.
I think I'm going to test it myself with the bike well hot, and I'll get a reading on a temp probe...................stay tuned - I WILL beat this thing !!!!!!!!!!!!!
