Default Need advice......

Hi,

Just bought a used 1987 Cbr1000f engine for my project bike. The engine looks mint and the Guy i bought it from said its only done 5K but doesnt know whats wrong with it.

ive whipped the head cover off and the alternator cover. When i turn the engine over by hand via the alternator the engine turns half way then the cam chain tensioner flaps and the chain totally locks up. Any idea why the engine completely jams up?

Any ideas?

many thanks

clark

Camchain and tensioner sound beyond repair or the timing is wrong and the valves are hitting the pistons.
Could also be a bent valve
In either case you may have an engine rebuild on your hands, or at least a new tensioner and someone who knows how to time the cams correctly.

If you bought it - take it back and get a refund.
The rebuild will cost you a lot more than a good secondhand engine.......that runs
I'd check the valve timing first - and I don't believe the mileage on that engine......

Sorry

And I moved it here to the Hurricane section - you'll get more replies

If you're willing to help out with the shipping cost I can pm you my address. That way it will at least stop you stubbing your toe on it every time you walk through your garage for the next two years.

kwi TK - here to help.
