Default looks like a engine rebuild

well on the weekend i bought a compression tester because cylinder 4 the spark plug was clean as can be ( new plugs on all cylinders) the others were a nice golden brown so i do a compression test across the cylinders which 1 2 and 3 were showing 135 psi (compression ratio its something like 10:1) and cylinder 4 was 30 psi...big alarm there...burn valve, stuck rings...so i started pulling the top off...had the head off it in about 2 hours making sure to note where every bolt goes anyways i haul the head and look at the valves...alittle junk on it but nothing to worry about, look in the cylinder and BAM melted piston. so the only thing i can come to is cylinder 4's carb had rust in the jet, so it leaned out the engine so much that the piston heated and melted...so i have a spare head with standard bore so im just going to go to oversized piston and rings...but i pulled the engine fully out of the bike and am in the midst of ripping the engine completely apart and replacing a lot of worn out parts.....the bike is a project that i hope to have hit the road next spring...i was hoping for less work but once im done she will run like new

dpasch, I may be doing the same thing if I can't find an engine. Have you purchased/priced out the parts yet? Kinda curious on price.

well guys when i split the case ill be taking LOTS of photos, i use them to document where i pull different bolts and pieces from
and sage well depending all the parts will depend on what it cost me

from what i got to redo the top end with oversized pistons its going to cost me roughly 420 dollars Canadian

now for the alternator chain and cam chain and tensioners for both its going to cost me roughly 320 bucks

plus im going to replace this an that so im setting 200 aside for that

again im doing all the work myself so i figure if i have to put about 1000 into a engine it isnt soo bad oh and those prices are based off of the pricing i found online. i have a friend who works at honda so im going to guess ill have the engine rebuilt for about 700 bucks

Definitely keep us updated dpasch.... I'll be looking forward to it.

Pics of burnt up pistons are always fun, too.... I guess not quite as fun for you, maybe...
By the end of this, though, you and your bike will be pretty intimate..

If you look around, though, you may be able to find a good motor for cheap.... all depends if you get luck, I guess.
