mine has 120,000km... the compression is down to 8.5 but it is even across the cylinders and as others above, doesn't burn oil unless I thrash it... and even then, never enough to be a problem as long as I check every 1,000k

 

Mine's at 122,000 miles. Around 90,000 it first showed signs of starting to use a little oil. That was at the track and running in the advanced group. The bike's been well maintained, on its third cam chain tensioner, second cam chain, but also has been run very hard.

I turned 100,000 miles on a cross-country trip from Pittsburgh PA to Los Angeles Ca. That should suggest the comfort I felt in the continued reliability. I crashed it (first wreck in 31 years of 38) so the mileage is on hold. It's repaired mechanically and test ridden but is in need of all cosmetics. It will go back on the road and will continue to be my main street ride. I have a spare low mileage engine that will go in at some point soon but have also accumulated the parts to refresh the existing motor. As remarked, it still runs well but is starting to use some oil when running hard... which is most of the time.

 

Given sensible use and correct maintainence the 1000F motor should go well over 100,000 miles. Forget to change the oil, ignore valve adjustments, redline it at every shift, forget about fluids, and your chances drop.

 

You suck! Now you are gonna make me adjust me valves!!! What else man, WHAT else?!

 

Is a 88 the same as a 95 engine.

 

My mate had a 1995 CBR600 with 160,000k on it, still starts first time, runs fine. Had it dynoed last year, still putting out 88bhp.
Only things he's done is replaced the fairing 2 years ago after a minor 'off' bike looks brand new now. Quailty oil and filters every 5000k since new have helped it.
The usual wear and tear like fork seals, cams and chains have been replaced but other than that its never been rebuilt or reconditioned.
He'll never sell it.

 

Mines done 72000miles and is in themiddle of a major rebuild. Everytrhing is being cleaned. Had the engine casings bead blasted last week and will be sending the frame and other parts off to be blasted and powdercoated this week. When I was in the engine found it to be sound so when I put it back togeter again will only be replacing the main bearings and odd valve. Well pleased with how the engine has lasted. Good old honda.

If I had the engine apart I'd be replacing the alternator damper and starter clutch and cc as a matter of course.

 

Already got those sitting on the bench waiting to go in. Currently checking the valve guides and cam lobes. Should be starting a new thread with pics soon, so maybe you could browse and give some imput, be much appreciated.
