K refers to color temp not necessarily brightness
the whitest most luminescent ones are at between 4300K and 4900K then the color
moves towards blue ....less bright on up to 12 k they get towards purple/magenta
and really begin to lose brightness
Under 4300K the color moves towards yellow again less bright
These Guys wholesale too in lots ....find enough peeps and they get cheaper
Depends on whether you go with a 35 or 55 kit to with regards to intensity and diffusion !
a 55 kit with 5k (bright white) or 6 k ( white/blue) seem to be the brightest and most focused (less diffused) imo
Useful Chart Link LOL

Gee - price with shipping $150 +, too rich for my blood I'm afraid.
I'll have to go with something a bit closer to my budget.
Thanks for the info on the K factor
I like the slightly blue light from my halogens, but not at the expense of lighting power. I'll look for something at around 5000-6000 K I think
I learn more every day.
Thanks

Here are some photos of my 5000K headlights taken at night - dip beam, main beam and just side/park light.
Hope this helps

Definitely best value for the price is www.ddmtuning.com.
i got 3 sets from there (Truck headlights and fog lights and bike) and they have been going strong for 1 year (Bike) and 2 years (Truck).
DDM also has HID Hi/Lo's not like some of the cheap ebay ones that they try to mount a halogen on the side of the HID bulb and they fail super fast.
If you want the mot light definitely go with 4300k or 5000k.
Here are my 8000k but the higher you go especially in the rain the less the output.

Thanks for all the pics and help guys. I've settled on a set of 6000K Hi-Lo units
I just found a set of HID units - the local spares place had ONE SET.
Price ?
=$380US !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sheeeite - here comes an e-Bay purchase for $70-80 shipped.
Once again the local shops do the rip-off trick.(and I had to tell the guy what the damn thing was )
Pffffft !

Hey:
I hope you get 55w mini ballast hids as the big ballast will not fit very well in the area we have for them on our bikes. Also the 35w mini ballast are slightly thinner, but for where you live I think 55w mini at 5k would be the Cats roar. Just some last input before you spend your hard earned cash. Another thing Zeta kits are some of the best made, but I have an Asian one purchased thru DDM and its been going well for over 2 yrs. Not that it was ridden much but you get the idea, in 40 C temps here they worked well with no issues this Summer.

I used DDM tuning to convert my TSX fog lights to HID (35w). Really easy to do, very small ballasts, and seems like good quality stuff. Their warranty is pretty good as well (Lifetime, I think... although you have to ship the bad parts back to them). Can't beat the prices either (at least here in the US!)

That looks like the same kit I bought Pete, except packaged up at an even cheaper price.
I've still yet to get round to replacing the one side that's gone out. I haven't had time to find out whether it's the lamp, ballast or power supply. I think when buying these it's worth looking at the small print and warranty terms. My CHinese ebay supplier has answer emails I've sent him and hopefully he'll be happy to replace the defective part once I get round to identifying it.
Riding around with one std H4 at the mo. Winter is coming. Must get some down time with the old girl.
