I just finished a rebuild and can tell you that it adds up quick. Just the basics tires, chain, sprockets, a battery, and fluids and you'll be close to 500. If you need fork seals you may as well do the wheel bearings while you're there carbs will need a rebuild and pretty quickly your in another 500.
I don't want to discourage you. Rebuilding my bike was a great expierence I wouldn't change for anything. This forum is a great resource and with some time and patience you can have a great bike. But if you don't want to work on it yourself I would say save up a little more as its always cheaper to buy one in good condition.

I'd give him an offer of maybe $450 - he knows his mechanic can't fix it so what can he do - only say no............and you can bet nobody else will buy it

I'm willing to bet his mechanic isn't a 1000F specialist - the guys here will have that bike running for sure
(3 years back my friend Tim offered a guy $400 for an R1 that wouldn't change gear - took it home and had it running in a couple of hours- bolt in gear selectors had jammed the box) Cost of repair - $0 )

you are almost guaranteed to make your money back on anything under 1000 for these bikes, just the plastics can net close to that much on fleabay when parted out. buy it see if we can fix it. if not part it out and make your money back

Hope someone can help....I recently bought a 96 CBR for a cheap. Bad News: Previous owner blew a rod through bottom of the engine block. Good News: I have a parts 93' parts bike with unknown miles/wear on engine and a CA emmision 96 cbr.
I'm reading compression tests and a good cleaning are in order, but not sure where to start....PLEASE HELP. I want to do as much as i can without telling the how much it'll cost to fix. She insisted on a new bike(kawasaki) but i LOVE my HONDA

Pull all the Cali PAIR tubing **** off first - only required on the wast Coast
