Ignition advance question?

Ignition advance question?
Will an igntion advance kit(4 deg.) for the '89-'94 hurricane 1000 still fit the '87-'88 models? I found one and I just wondered if it would fit my '87. Also if you install an ignition advance kit would it require rejetting the carbs? I wouldn't think you'd have to as long as you used premium gas (which I do already). And if anyone has installed a kit does it make a big difference in where the powerband is?

In case you already have the kit, or can get it very cheap, I guess its just to check if it fits mechanically on '87-'88 models. Some info on https://cbrforum.com/m_167076/tm.htm I wouldn't hesitate to try an advancer kit if I had it, it should give a snappier throtthle response, but watch up for detonations.

RE: Ignition advance question?
Well I won the ignition advance kit off of e-bay today. I'll see if it'll work. I've got my bike torn down & cleaning, and tuning it up over the winter. I've seen the kits for sale in Dennis Kirk catalogs before. My newest catalog doesn't have it listed though. They were around $60. If it doesn't work on mine I'll offer it to someone on this site. It's susposed to advance the ignition by 4 deg. Hopefully it won't make the bike run hotter in the summer. Man... I can't wait 'till spring. It's coming quick.... I got alot to finish on my bike!

RE: Ignition advance question?
Hi,
I fitted a 4 degree advancer to my 1990FL model about 50k miles ago. The effect isn't hugely obvious, but it does help a bit in the midrange and it improved fuel economy a bit. You will not notice any difference at high RPM. On detonation, as long as you use at least 97 octane fuel it will be OK. The bikes are set up at the factory to run on much lower octane fuel - which is why you can advance the ignition without doing any damage to the engine. Good luck with the fitting!

Color sanding is taking a lot longer then I had planned. I should be done with the sanding sometime this week. Then, hopefully, I can clear everything next weekend and start putting her back together. Should have her done just after the new year I hope (thats my plan anyway).
