Default I has a new project!

For those of us in the States who live north of the Mason - Dixon line or those in northern Europe who like to ride as long as possible, we usually run into the same problem: Staying warm. I've got every part of my body covered except for my hands. I've got heated grips, but the outside of my hands still get cold, even with winter gloves. So while I was looking over a couple of other boards, I came across a post of fitting V-Strom hand guards onto a FJR. It got me thinking, 'hey, I've got VFR bars that are set back, so I should be able to do this and still have clearance with the front plastic'. So I went down to my local dealer and ordered a hand guard for one side to test it. My results:

Stock:

Dry fit:

Front plastic clearance:

I've got 1 1/2" cleanance with the bars fully turned.

Here's my problem (crappy image, sorry):

The pivot bolt doesn't go down far enough. I need another 4mm (26mm total) of bearing surface and an extra 6mm of threads for the nut on the bottom. Also, I've seen somewhere online recently a spacer for the bar end weights for Honda bikes and was wondering if somebody knew about them.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm - I'd probably just have bought thermal inner gloves.
To my mind they look like the GS650 BMW units.......[8D].
I don't have your problem, rather the reverse with too much heat, but much as I admire your determination, I wouldn't put those on my bike...............[>:]

What about heated gloves too?
Much less work, but I admire the thought behind it

Can you take a pic from the seated position? I more interested at the bars at this point. What are the differences between VFR and the stock CBR bars?

I'll try to take a pc tomorrow night. The VFR bars are about 3/4" higher and 1/2" set back. Also, unlike the CBR bars that are locked into the upper triple tree, the VFR bars don't have an alignment tab so I can put them at what angle I want.
