Bicklebok,

That is so sad. What a frustrating thing to happen. The show of support from this group is incredible! Hang in there and keep us posted. We can all celebrate after you are fixed and back on the road again.

Cheers,

Steve-o

Mate been there and feel for ya - still get that sick empty feeling in my gut when I think how I was stood there staring at the space where my bike used to be. (VF750 in rothmans racing colours - never saw it again)

These days mine is in a locked garage and chained to an anchor point with a disc lock and alarm.

I am also about to order a GPS tracking system - This months Fast bikes listed one as having an rrp of £265 - which is a bit steep but I have found the same model for $119 USD with free worldwide shipping.

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.22599

but they also have one which comes with a harnes for permanent wiring and looks better to me - it is even slightly cheaper at $94 USD

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.22968

The way they work for those that dont know is that you insert a prepaid mobile SIM in them. you can then text the device and it will respond with its location - pop that into google earth / maps and you know exactly where your bike is (Cost of a text on a prepaid sim here in UK is about £0.04 which is not bad to get your bike back.)

They also have functions that set it up as an alarm - so if it moves it will text you and you can dial up the device and listen to what is going on around it

Clever eh ?

I may be paranoid - but at least I'd rather be paranoid and still have my bike

oh for the record I (and guys at work) have bought quite a lot of stuff from that site and not had any hassles - delivery takes a while but it is from china and free, so factor a bit of a wait to get your gear - usually 1-2 weeks for China to UK

Not nice. Unfortunately there is always a low life ready to ruin someones day just for kicks. Hang in there. She'll be up & running in no time especially with the help of our mates here.

Harry, that's a really good idea.

I'm gonna look into that.

I think a cool idea would be to get a cheap bike just to put lojack on it. Then set it out in a high crime area as bait...

I'm not sure how well that would work, sprock.
Don't you have to push a button on that thing to send a signal?

Seems it runs steady once on

Figuring where to put it on the bike would be the question.

It has some neat extra's a reg tracker does not havebut not really
a Lo Jack alternative

Power:
SPOT has a separate power button to ensure long battery life and to help avoid sending messages accidentally. To turn SPOT on, press the ON/OFF button. You must then wait an additional 2 seconds before activating any SPOT function. When power is on, the indicator light will blink once every 3 seconds. This is also helpful for making SPOT more visible in the dark. To turn SPOT off, press and hold the ON/OFF button for 3 seconds.

Interesting alternative, but you're right... it may be a bugger to stash it on your bike.
