Mate been there and feel for ya - still get that sick empty feeling in my gut when I think how I was stood there staring at the space where my bike used to be. (VF750 in rothmans racing colours - never saw it again)
These days mine is in a locked garage and chained to an anchor point with a disc lock and alarm.
I am also about to order a GPS tracking system - This months Fast bikes listed one as having an rrp of £265 - which is a bit steep but I have found the same model for $119 USD with free worldwide shipping.

but they also have one which comes with a harnes for permanent wiring and looks better to me - it is even slightly cheaper at $94 USD

The way they work for those that dont know is that you insert a prepaid mobile SIM in them. you can then text the device and it will respond with its location - pop that into google earth / maps and you know exactly where your bike is (Cost of a text on a prepaid sim here in UK is about £0.04 which is not bad to get your bike back.)
They also have functions that set it up as an alarm - so if it moves it will text you and you can dial up the device and listen to what is going on around it
Clever eh ?
I may be paranoid - but at least I'd rather be paranoid and still have my bike
oh for the record I (and guys at work) have bought quite a lot of stuff from that site and not had any hassles - delivery takes a while but it is from china and free, so factor a bit of a wait to get your gear - usually 1-2 weeks for China to UK

Figuring where to put it on the bike would be the question.
It has some neat extra's a reg tracker does not havebut not really
a Lo Jack alternative
Power: SPOT has a separate power button to ensure long battery life and to help avoid sending messages accidentally. To turn SPOT on, press the ON/OFF button. You must then wait an additional 2 seconds before activating any SPOT function. When power is on, the indicator light will blink once every 3 seconds. This is also helpful for making SPOT more visible in the dark. To turn SPOT off, press and hold the ON/OFF button for 3 seconds.
