Thank god! Now I won't have to bother to go through the entire cooling system looking for a fault. As long as it stays 1/4 on the highway and open road, she's OK!!

I knew this bike was not meant for city driving, but didn't take it that literally! hehe

No two are alike. Mine boiled & dumped all it coolant on the road @3/4 on the temp gauge. No damage luckily. The fan switch didn't work & it was stinking hot 100deg + in non moving traffic & no where to go. What I have found is even when the fan comes on you need to up the revs a little to circulate the coolant & then the gauge will start to show the drop in temperature fairly quickly. At idle there just isn't enough coolant movement to show up quickly even though the fan is cooling things down. What I'm trying to say is as long as it's all working these old girls run hot & that's normal.

Like I said...No where to go. Down the side of the Adelaide Town Hall. A tiny narrow back alley they call a road blocked with delivery trucks etc. The worst traffic jam I'd seen in a long time. No where to move in any direction. I heard a noise & thought my fan was on & didn't worry. The gauge wasn't high so I didn't care. The noise was the coolant boiling. I still rode the old girl home. Every time I was moving she cooled down. I think the oil cooler helped there. Just shows how strong they were made. Gotta love the old girls. They got guts.

If my gauge went in the red like that I'd stop too. Trouble was it was only 3/4. I found out that my gauge is inaccurate. Now I know & can allow for the difference.

I know i Know, this is an old topic, but i noticed something today regarding this, i was kind of stuck in trafic but was able to still advance and when i kept the bike running at 3000rpm it did not get as warmed as when i ride in sixth with alower rpm, . My question is does the engine speed has an influence at what speed the water pump makes the collant circulate trough the cooling system if so then it would explain why while at was rolling at a lower pace at 300 the temperatur never got near or passed the halfway mark!

Aslo by putting trimming beetween the tank and side covers it kept me from having a pair of frogs fird thighs 9 I am french sppeaking) even though Classic that i was wearing a pair of jeans and not a speedo!

your thoughts

The waterpump is mechanically driven by the engine so the faster the engine spins so does the WP. BUT the engine will get hotter too, so I guess there is a happy mediu, where the flow is better than at iddle but the engine is not yet generating excessive heat.

My guess is that if you can keep the temps low enough so that the fan doesn't kick in, you nuts will have a better chance of suviving!
