Smile cons of removing the pump and relay????

Hello guys... new to the forum and cbr's...just got an '87 that I put new rod bearings in...having a similar problem that the pump stays pumping fuel, sometimes the relay will work but 99.9% of the time it doesn't...fuel then starts to pour out of the vents on top of the carbs and floods the bike...tried replacing the relay with a hella universal one but to no avail...connections won't match up...would run on two cylinders depending on the combination of the wires...once the wires are connected "right" thew pump won't pump fuel and she starves...I'm interested in removing the pump and relay but need to know if she will suffer from being lean at speed? I do a little spirited riding in the caribbean(usvi) she's also my only vehicle too and can't afford to have her breakdown on me...The plastics are in very bad shape but she came with an extra set that was decent so me and my friend will be fixing them this week and have therm ready for paint...thanks for the help and hope to hear from you guys soon!!!!!

I don't own that year myself but from what I've read on here removing the fuel pump is a good move. The 87 and 88 were the only bikes with fuel pumps in 89 (euro) 90 (US) they became gravity fed.
But.... I don't believe that is your only issue!!

It'll run just fine gravity fed you may have to get a few fuel line elbows (marine type)
work well to make a few tight turns in the fuel line so as to prevent kinks

I also think your float valves in the carbs need checking !

Thanks ranchome and sprock...just removed airbox and carbs to have them cleaned up...before I took them out I started her up w/o the pump and it started nice...while she was turned on I connected the pump and she shut off...disconnect the pump and she worked fine...disconnect the cut off relay and the headlight goes out...connect it and she works...found in the manual that the relay actually serves as a kind of 'bridge' you might say, for the coils, headlight, pump, and other things...The plug from the harness to the relay broke and my wires are out of place too...need to know which goes where b/c the manual doesn't specify "up or down" etc....so need to figure that one out...well...hope to be riding soon...this bike is nice...all works on her except this little hicup with the relay, pump, and carbs...anyway...any help with this little issues and I'll be greatful!!!!!!!!!!! hope to hear from you guys soon...

Great to hear that man Enjoy & keep us up to date especially if you get into replacing
the fork seals along with the dust covers ( recommended btw ) unless they are good
and tight with no excess oil residue on the fork tubes
