Unless like me you forgot you'd put it on reserve (or some friendly soul did it for me, not sure - I have two grown sons with their own bikes who have that sort of sense of humour)
So manhood didn't really come into it (s'cuse the pun)
Just being dumb.

We live and learn, and having to push one of these old ladies is a quickly learned lesson on fuel control.
(You could of course cheat, and measure how far she'll go on reserve and carry a spare fuel supply for when it happens) but I guess that would take all the testosterone out of it..........

All the way counter clock wise is on, all the way clock wise is reserve half way is off. Hope that helps.
