Default Front Suspension Questions

When chagning oil in the forks is it fine to just add the volume given in the manual or must one measure the 172mm?

Also what are your thoughts on going to a little higher weight oil to increase the compression and rebound rates on the forks?

I don't really want to mess with new springs now.

Thanks.

Default RE: Front Suspension Questions

Did some searching in the forum and found some very good info from Dad on suspension. He made a longer spacer for the front springs, about 5/8" longer, in order to obtain the proper free and static sag measurements. He also went with heaver weight oil and filled the legs higher to reduce the air gap. All sounds good. He said he was 205 at the time and these changes worked well for him rather than new higher rate springs (though new springs would likely have been better yet). I'm 245, do you think a spacer 3/4" longer will result in the proper sag settings for me? That's a little longer than the spacer he made and I'm a little heavier.
