RE: Fit alternate R/R to '97 1000F
Yeah I figure is because of the heat, and the original regulator doesn't have a good heat dissipation, this looks like the one I'm replacing it with:
I figure these should last a long time, right? At least all my previous bikes had these kind of regs and never got a problem with them (and I ride all year long).
Not that I'm gonna give up on the CBR, I just love it and I hope it'll last me many years, but it's good to know in advance if this is something common to keep a replacement at hand, specially to check before long trips.

Where did I find my Datel digital voltmeter? from Datel
http://store.cd4power.com/cgi-bin/cd...N/Catalog/1013
I bought the simple two wire meter about the size of two US dimes side by side. Cost about $50 including the bazel. I do believe the price is higher than that now.

RE: Fit alternate R/R to '97 1000F
Ok just to let you guys know what I've done in regards of the R/R, I've bought one from a local manufacturer, around $70 USD with 2 years warranty, and it's meant for the '87-'88 model. Fits perfectly into mine ('92) without the plug, wich is not a problem since the previous owner replaced the original regulator for a CB750 one so the original plug went.
It has a huge heatsink surface, and keeps the voltage at 14,5v at idle (1000rpm) and 15,5v at idle with lights on, no need to rev it up to charge the battery, and keeps the same voltage above 5000rpm (never goes over the normal charging values).
Time to burn some rubber then![8D]

Daniel,
Do you have a link to the place you found the new R/R? I have sanded the metal and used heat sink grease between them. I also mounted a small processor fan on top of the heat sink. Powered by the tail light circut. I found that idea on an older post in this forum.
I am about to buy a batt. I hope the old one was killed by a batt. charger (1.5 amp) and a faulty coffee timer. he he It would be nice to have that info on hand, incase it is the R/R.
Thanks, and I hope your problem is fixed.
Art. Nice job on the volt meter. Thanks for the info.

Well finally found the time to take the pic of the new regulator:
That's the one from the link above, it's listed as an '87-'88 model but it works perfectly on my '92, just had to rearrange the plugs and that's it. I figure it'll also work for '93 models and on.
