finally fixed the 1000
well everyone, i have finally fixed my 1000. after pulling the head and finding 2 intake valves that hit there respective piston i also found a leaky exaust valve. i removed them and took them to my friend at the machine shop who was kind enough to grind my valves and let me reinstall them for nothing(its nice to know people). then i reinstalled the head only to find out it still ran like crap! after ripping out large chunks of hair i found the missing link. a broken E-Clip in the carb. cyl. number one was not getting any fuel because the neddle was firmly stuck in the jet. after spending i think a dollar and a half on an assortment of F-ing E-clips it now runs like an animal. i wonder if the E-Clip was my problem all along... anyway the moral of the story is after many very frustrating nites, she lives again. also i highly suggest polishing the intake runners. it will make the world of difference, my bike runs far better than she ever did.

RE: finally fixed the 1000
Nice to locate the fault and hit the road again. I few questions:
Did you found the reason why intake valves had come in contact pistons?
Did you only polished the intake runners, or did you clean/deburr them with a grinder? Just polishing the runners would normally not improve performance at all, it could even reduce performance.

RE: finally fixed the 1000
first question: I am unsure why the intake valves hit the piston, the valves that hit were both intake valves in cyl. #4. i believe the valves hit the piston some time ago, before i bought it, because i had problems starting it that no longer exist.
Second question: My buddy took his dremel to the intake runners and made them smoother than glass and shiney as hell. we only did as far in the runners as nwe could get without taking out the valves so its really only a half *** job. i'll have some 1/4 mile times soon but i can tell you now this thing runs real good. i managed a best time of 14.5 last season and i weigh in at 300 and it has 31,000 miles on it so you can see it is no slouch. also my bike is a california model. anything else i can answer for ya? feel free to ask
