Angry Fan Dies

The fan on my 1987 1000 doesn`t come on anymore. Any suggestions? I thought I finally had the bike running great.

Disconnect the fan, run two wires from the battery to the fan. If the fan works then it is the sensour, wires, fuse, or connections.

If you have a muliti meter you can chase the 12v. to see if your fan is getting 12v to run

+1 exactly! If no multi meter, just bodge up any low wattage 12volt bulb with two bits of wire and attach them to the existing fan connections as well. Then run her until the fan should come on and keep an eye on the bulb. If it lights up and the fan doesn't then the fan's stuffed.

OR

with the ignition on pull the wire off the rad fan switch and ground it to the frame

if the fan comes on it's the switch if not the fan motor

Just put a manual 12v switch up on your fairing and use it to switch it on and off

Only really needed going slow in traffic ( or following Kilgoretrout) anyway

That's what usually seems to happen. A manual switch is usually the preferred fix, too.

The plus side of the manual switch is that you have cooling when tuning. Even with an auto switch the manual comes in handy. I made a small mount that comes out under the left fairing insert & sits neatly out of sight & out of the weather. No holes in the plastic.
