Exhaust Blowing
#81
I remember the trouble you had Harry, believe me it was in the back of my mind when this whole thing started, hence the questions about welding the exhaust while on the bike.
The reason I bought this bike in the first place was 'cos it already had a stainless steel exhaust on it and I thought I'd never have to touch it
As for another engine, the pennies won't stretch that far, so I think it'll just have to be head off

Strewth Steve , this is a bloody chit of a thing to happen mate !!!!
As Harry said , once those bastards break , they are a dam worry to remove ...
Dunno what else to say except , good luck ...
I think the best way to tackle the head off thing , is do not make the mistake of waiting too long before ripping her apart .... from my experience mate, the longer they sit broken , the worse the problem seems ...
If you tuck in , you should have the head off and in the shop in one afternoon !!! then it wont seem too bad I recon ...

After giving it some thought, I had an idea.
The broken stud is protruding by about 5mm and by my reckoning the piece of stud remover stuck in there is about 5mm as well. So if I can cut off that last 5mm of stud, flush with the head, the bit of the stud remover should come out with it. Then I'll just have to re-drill the normal steel the stud is made from.
Just need to get a dremel type tool with a mini cutting disc, chit I hope this works. Any hoo back to work tomorrow, so it'll just have to wait.
If it doesn't work, what am I looking at to remove the cylinder head, can I do it with the engine still in the bike and will I need to strip all the cams and valves out?
Thanks guys

Hmm?...5mm still sticking out hey Steve ..... hey all is not lost yet then mate !!!
If it were me , I would try warming up around it again (not on the stud ) and using some vice grips to budge the dam thing again (before I cut anything else off that is )
and yer , cams have to come out unless you torch the chain in half mate !! .lolol
Head will come off in the bike though, but leave the valves in ..lolol........
It really looks worse than the job seems ...
I think for me at least , it is pulling off all the stuff in the way to get the head out , that pisses me off ... carbs , and all that crap ..
I would keep buggering around with whats hanging out first though ...

If you have to take the head off take loads of photos and label bolts etc with a bit of masking tape!
Also, jam rags tightly in all the ports and wrap the head as much as possible to keep the swarf out!
Good luck mate! Fingers crossed all round lads. Clap those vice grips on as hard as you can and hold yer face just right...it might just come out.
