Default disc shims

finally got round to sorting out my apparantly warped left disc, after removing disc, placed flat on a piece of glass and went around it with feeler gauges, seemed very little warp if any at all,the wheel has beebn powercoated white at some time and the old shims re-used ,the threads and fitted disc bolts were gummed up with plastic coating ,so cleaned the plasic coating off the flange boss to expose clean allay and cleaned up with a dremel type drill with copper wire brush, cleaned threads out with a tap, obtained an A4 sheet of .80 oil resistant gasket paper ,,punched out many 19mm x 10 mm washers, cleaned and repainted disc centres, reffitted disc with new home made disc shims torqued up evenly ,left for 2 days and retorqued ,had new wheel bearings fitted at start of last summer ,but as hadnt done them myself, and local shop hadnt fitted new seals as they claimed they were just dust seals as both bearings were sealed type, they also came under scrutiny ,one was fine ,the other had quite a bit of rust forming round it ,and was coarse ,so the lot came out,and was replaced by an all ***** kit complete with seals ,as mine has linked brakes ,and needle rollers in the link pivot this came off too ,the needle rollers were dry and beginning to corrode ,they were cleaned brackets and bolts repainted repacked with clean grease, while the calipers were off ,the pads were checked were kyoto pads ,ok but seemed to take a good few yards to bite in the wet,so new ferodo organics went in ,caliper slider pins removed and checked ,most ok but left corroded and sticking so was ,cleaned off with powered wire brush, liberally lubricated with silicone grease and refitted ,as was right and rear, result -front discs no longer have warp ,stops as it should ,wheel bearings .no longer running in emulsified grease and rust ,,next job recondition swing arm and rear wheel, moral of the story -if you going to do it do it properly ,or you going to cause yourself or somone else a lot of work ,seals are there to stop water and dirt getting in as well as gease getting out , a couple of thou out at the base of a disc is a lot more at outer edges ,you can make about 100 new disc shims for half the price of buying 1 new honda one ,still cant work out why in uk you can buy bearings anywhere but only the usa seems to have the sense to sell a proper complete kit with seals ,found the all ***** kit A1,will be fitting their rear kit too,got mine from champion moto in caerphilly as am in wales .nice guys to deal with and very helpful ,hope anyone else with disc probs finds this helpful

God that is so hard to read.

But the good news is Steve, the twin thread is back.

I'm sure you've managed to find heaps of photos while this thread has been having a wee rest.

Perhaps you may wish to indulge us with your latest finds?

Gentlemen, I think we have just witnessed the birth of one of those pesky rules of English.

Well said that man Hawkwind; I might just go off and crack open a new paragraph myself.
