Bugger me!
I turn my back for a week and look what's happened. The post has gone **** up, turned into a frigging beauty contest and only one person has had anything sensible to say. God help anyone trawling through the archives trying to find a clue as to why their front bakes are making like a frigging vibrator every time they squeeze the lever.
I apologise for the tangential interlude between question and any meaningful answer if you are actually reading this post in time to come. I'm sure all the time wasters you had to suffer have probably died of syphilis by now.
Anyway, can we just agree that they do matter, either all missing or all in place, not some or one missing. My brakes have been superb this week. 500 miles. Proof of the pudding.
I rest my case, and Pete's!
Carry on with the twins men, it won't be long before you're down the clinic begging for a big red pill, frantically scratching your *****......... he he.......form an orderly queue.

GEEZ !!!!!!!!!!!
A voice of reason
Thank God for our 'Enry.

And if they think a red pill will fix what they've got, think again. Especially Hawk and Classic, way too far advanced for the red pill. It hits the brain first I'm told. Certainly seems that way..........
Timbucthree may have a chance at salvation, if he stay clean in future.

And as they say in Lincolnshire

You's can all get FOOKED PFFFFFT !!!
Except our 'Enry

And all you little boy scouts just lost all your merit badges........

Hey and remember , it was you Unky Pee Pee that pulled our ,ok Henry's, dissimilar metal twins thread out into the real bloody world ...we were all happy in the saloon half pissed having a bitta fun ....or ok , Henry had his serious suit on!! , but we were all havin fun mate ..... geeze !! bloody party pooper !! lol[/QUOTE]

I think you be getting ya wires a bit crossed Steve o!..... and just a tad more than half pissed? You know the JB has a very linear effect on memory recall, mostly downward.

I didn't mention dissimilar metals..... though it's a consideration but in my view not why Honda fit twins... Er...I mean shims... between the discs and wheel bosses. If that were the case we'd have shims between the bloody screws as well wouldn't we?

OK mate I might have a slight hint of serious in my suit, (although right now I'm stark naked), but like I said.... no one ever mentions these shims. I just wanted to stick a topical thread out there for the record. They may be little insignificant pieces of waxed paper but let no man forget about them if they want smooth, vibration free braking. Honda parts list calls them 'shims (Damper)'. I think that's a good clue as to what they're for.

I can't find any decent swimwear pics right now otherwise I'd have to try and out bid Tim. A very impressive in-line 6. That's a tough hand.
Ah well, I'll leave that to the professionals around here. Keep em coming.
Now let's see...... google..... blonde, beauty queen quads in swim suits...... ????

This poor girl appears to have a spacer missing. Not sure what would happen if she tried to stop too quickly but then I'm sure we'd all agree that pumping her brakes should be a last resort, after the initial test ride of course. Personally I'd leave plenty of distance for manouvering...

Sorry to derail the thread and talk about brakes...

The shims are there to keep the discs from rattling. They're floating rotors, and if you took all of the shims out the brakes would rattle when your bike was sitting on the stand idling. Also, the rotors would be freely wiggle-able by hand, and this would be disconcerting to anyone who wasn't familiar with how floating rotors work.

It has been common practice in the past to remove all of the shims on race bike floating rotors so as to allow them to float more freely. That said, I've ridden lots of bikes with all of the shims, and many with all of them removed (or some cases where they didn't come with any) and both work fine. Having one missing could cause some jittery stuff to go on there I suppose, so it's good to hear that you've got it taken care of.
