Thanks guys, still working on it and trying...... The clutch lever switch was not engaging so I jumped the two wires together, and still no spark. I assume that it is a "connect" to work switch, and not a "break circuit" switch. Other than checking every damn connection and plug on the bike, I feel like the only things left are the rectifier, the icm, and the pulser. I'm trying to find someone that can come look at it, as I am reaching the end of my patience. I am actually considering selling this bike and getting something a little newer that I can ride and enjoy. I hate to be a quitter, but I am not a bike mechanic, and I don't think it would be wise to start dumping parts and dollars into this without even knowing if it will run....... Keep you posted and thanks all for the help.

Hi,
I was just reading your comments about the the coil leads not fitting on #2 and #4 when you received them, which seems odd.

First: Are your coils setup and orientated exactly like the picture below? What did you do to make the coils fit after you received them (since the leads did not reach?)

Second: on each of the coils, two wires are connected onto the main loom. One of those wires is BLACK AND WHITE and it carries the 12 volts from the battery to the coil via the kill switch. I think you already found that (it was the terminal where your test light was really bright), but if you've been playing around with the kill switch then perhaps it might pay to identify that again. Absolutely nothing will happen unless that 12 volts is present. When you find the +12 volt terminals (one on each coil), turning the kill switch on and off (with ignition key on of course) should switch your test light on (BRIGHT) and off (nothing).

Third: the "other" wire attached to each of the coils (not the black and white one) should be coloured. The one on coil 1/4 (left as sitting on bike) should be mainly yellow, with a blue band repeating. The one on 2/3 should be mainly blue, with a yellow band repeating. If you look at the diagram sprock posted on page 3 you will see the colours. Check to make sure these are the right way round. This is very important.

Fourth: this might seem like a really dumb question, but I know from past experience that it is worth asking it when things seem to be going nowhere. The question is, do you know that the fault you are chasing is real? Really what I am asking is, how do you KNOW that you have no spark? Clearly the bike doesn't go (duh) but are you sure that you are chasing the right problem? KiwiJK makes a very good point about the plugs when testing to find a visual spark - the coil actually discharges through 1 plug and then the current goes through the engine ground and then back up through the other plug in the opposite direction to complete the circuit back to the originating coil (e.g. 1 and 4 both fire together off the same coil etc). So if you are looking for a visual "spark" you must have the other plug on the same coil connected to the chassis also.

I am actually an electronics person by trade, and I know that this sort of stuff can drive you nuts. But the thing that always saves me is to go back to basics, stop looking for complicated things and start with the simple things which we tend to make assumptions about.

I will check the kill switch test you outlined for me, and there are definitely some variables that I don't know for 100% sure. The coils and wires were sent to me by a forum member, therefore I am assuming that they are right, I was just thinking that they should not be so tight. I rerouted the wires to make them reach, but I am having difficulty getting the spark plug boots to "grab" the spark plugs tightly. I did hear back from someone that may be coming to pick my bike up and take it to his shop to troubleshoot with knowledge and experience. I'll keep posting, and I havn't thrown in the towel yet!!! Thanks, have a great Friday!!

That would be me and if I remember correctly they were even labeled with
numbers 1&4 2&3 and came off a running 100% bike prior to a stick coil conversion

I'm assuming Shady you know they'll only grip the top of the plug if the
screw cap is off ..... as in.... they'll only grip the threaded top part of the plug

Unlike an Automobile plug ! ................. Eureka LOL

in other words discard the 4 spark plug screw on tops !

Some great info there Bohdan. Didn't know that about the two spark plugs from the same coil needing to both be earthed for them to fire.

Electrickrey not being my strong point

Been busy back at work guys, and I havn't been tinkering with my little girl until this weekend. I havn't checked the wires on the back of the coil for the colors that Bohdan has pointed out. I will this weekend and I will also see if I can get a spark by grounding both plugs off the same coil. I'll post what I find out after the weekend. The coils fit in great Sprock, and I did remove the posts from the plugs, (after realizing they weren't supposed to be on, duh on me, , but I am having a difficult time getting 1 and 4 to get a good grip on the plugs. I will probably just put a little squeeze on the plug clamps and see if that snugs up a bit. Thank everyone again for your help and info!

Have a great night,

Shady
