coil packs?

Could a bad coil pack cause my bike to stumble and fall on its face when i shift into 2nd and 3rd gear as im riding. Any way to test a coil pack. Should i put a spark plug on the wire and look for spark?

I'd be surprised if that were the culprit. Is your speedometer hooked up ? Is the Air Vent Solenoid working properly and all the hoses hooked up right ?
