CCT Mod update
It's been three years and about 4000 miles since my CCT mod was completed. It needed minor adjustment last year and was quiet until today when the bucket of nails returned with a vengeance on start up.
I will adjusted the tensioner again and a stronger spring may be installed, but I most likely will adopt Henry's next winter. It appears more capable of allowing for chain wear and variation than the system I tried.
Edit to add: for those curious about the mod I made: https://cbrforum.com/forum/how-tos-8...pleted-125146/

I expected to tear into the bike and give the requested update first thing this week, but life sometimes gets in the way of pleasurable activities. Finally I had time today.
It appears that threads on the bolt are hanging up where it goes through the top plate of the CCT, and/or the spring being used is not strong enough to maintain tension. Working the bolt up and down a few times loosened it enough that it would follow the tensioning arm when cranking. When everything was buttoned up and the engine started the cam chain is silent. It's doubtful that will continue for long. I haven't decided if I'll just try a stronger spring on the current setup, or redo it and build to Henry M's modification.
Either will require more time than I have right now, and since my sons and I are headed out for a week-long tour of western Montana next Tuesday, I'll live with a noisy chain until winter when a typical Montana weather precludes riding. Besides, it'll give me something to do in my brand new soon to be heated garage while wind whistles and snow falls. Take that, old man winter!
