Exclamation CBR1000F Ignition

I have lost the key to my bike, so I need to take off the ignition and take it to a locksmith so he can make a new key for me, problem is when I went to take the ignition off I noticed it is held on by 2 TORX screws from the bottom, does anyone know what size TORX these are for sure? Is it a T-40? (just a guess)

I can confirm that the 2 bolts holding on the ignition are 2 T40 Security (star pattern) Torx Bolts. I went to AutoZone just now, bought a 3/4" ratchet ($9.99), a 24" extension ($13.99) and a T40 bit ($4.99) - got back to the house had the first one off in just about 30 seconds (have to go up from the front tire past the radiator) and I still haven't got the 2nd one off yet I think it is stripped now I am trying to figure out what to do.

Well sounds like someone put them on as a replacement

Take a dremel and cut a slot or square it off for a needle nose vice grips

edit : carefully

if its being a real pain, i would unplug it from the loom, take the handlebars off and whip off the top yolk with the barrel still int it, it will make it easier to work on, you may be able to clamp it in a vice and use a chisel to take it out, wrap it up well though

Well I can tell you that the 1987 US import CBR1000F I have has torx bolts on the key ignition unit.

I know cause I had to tighten them.

Cheers, SB
