Default Cam Specs for Interchangeability

I know they'll physically interchange but want to verify for specs. This information is in the front section of the factory service manual. I have the '90-'91 manual and will post them for it but need the surrounding years. Especially interested in later years but all may one day be handy. Anybody with other years please post and identify the years covered by the manual.

Cam timing from "Specifications" section. 1990 and 1991.

Intake opens at 1MM lift
15 deg. BTDC
(California 0 deg, BTDC)

Intake closes at 1MM lift
38 deg. ABDC
(California 40 deg. ABDC)

Exhaust opens at 1MM lift
40 deg. BBDC
(California same)

Exhaust closes at 1 MM lift
5 deg. ATDC
(California 0 deg. ATDC)

Cam lobe height from "General Information" section, advising service limits. California is the same as 48 states.

Intake 35.608 - 35.808 MM

Exhaust 35.480 - 35.680 MM

Thanks.

Thanks, Trip. That's helpful. Do you have the timing? For example, the lifts on the '90/'91 are the same for California and forty-eight state while the timings between the two are quite different. In my manual they are located a couple of pages earlier in the "Specifications" section.

Also, you must be European. We don't use those letter designations as readily in the US and I'm not up to speed on the model years they indicate. I'm sure I can find it but if you could shed light on that it will save the trouble. Thanks again.

The Haynes manual doesn't have the cam timing which is f*cked.

Using the letter designations is actually bases on engine & frame no. but as a rough guide it is like this:-

1987 - H
1988 - J
1989 - K
1990 - L
1991 - M
1992 - N
1993 - P
1994 - R
1995 - S
1996 - T

Thanks again, Trip.

Anybody else with the Honda factory manual? These specs are in the front of the manual in the data sections. I've got a later engine and some other parts available and trying to determine if I want to mess with them or what I'd want to change if I did.

I have the original manual for a 88 cbr1000f and it states the

intake - opens 15 degrees [0 degrees] BTDC
- closes 38 degrees [40 degrees] ABDC

Exhaust - opens 40 degrees BBDC
- closes 10 degrees [0 degrees] ATDC

all at 1mm lift

FYI: hope that helps
