Default European specs VS. American specs

Hi all! Please help out a newbie who knows absolutely nothing about bikes! My brother is coming in from Japan and has purchased a European specs CBR 954RR (2003). What is the difference between that and an American model? Also are any modifications going to be needed to register it here in the States (KY)?

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

as long as you have a title, if it's needed in your state. i wouldn't mention to anyone that it is euro spec, insurance or your motor vehicle department. just go there like you have a regular u.s. spec bad *** 954.

I know exactly of what you think. I just came from Japan and they often sell U.S., Japanese, European and Canadian spec. bikes. You shouldn't have a problem registering your bike here in the U.S.. The only problem is that if he informs the TMO (Traffic Management Office) that the bike is not U.S. spec., they may make him ship it separate from his household goods and have it delivered to a dealer who'll make any changes required and then you can ride freely. It depend on how your brother handles the whole set up. But once again, the European spec. is not that different from U.S. and the Canadian needs no changing at all. Don't even think of bringing a Japanese spec bike over here. You'll end up paying more for conversions than what the bike is actually worth. Hope this helps.
