Alternator drive won't fit!!!
Hi guys
As the headline says, I have encountered a strange problem.
I am in the process of replacing the alternator damper (again) and in that process, I must removed the above mentioned drive shaft. Been done before and no problems.
Now when i try to refit the drive, it is as if it has become shorter hence I am unable to fit the nut at the end of the drive. If I "fit" it without alternator base, it goes right through and I can fit the nut. Obvious that is not a solution, but trying to isolate the problem.
Anyone with a reason as to why it will not fit? Gears, chain etc is NOT fitted!!
I really need some input, so would appreciate any ideas.

hi again
of course you should all know, what the problem was.
As it turned out, the shaft itself had moved about 1/2 cm back. So obviously it would not fit. Some very careful tapping with a hammer with a piece of wood in between, I got it back to original position and I could fit the nut back.
Don't tap directly on the shaft, as you may damage the bearing at the end of the shaft.
I tapped on the side of the generator casing , while holding the complete drive on a table edge.
Now she is put back together (except farings) and she starts like a dream again.
