Gee that is unlucky to have that chain brake.
It runs from the crankshaft so you have to go the whole hog.
See if you can take as many pics as possible so that if/when other people have to do it it is made easier.
Also sometimes there are work arounds that aren't in the manual that you discover.

I worked in a GM dealership as a mechanic for a few years. That Honda manual is terrible compared to a GM manual.
I've got a ton of pics if the engine apart, but I've been to lazy to resize them and post them. Parts are due in tomorrow, but I have to help a friend move home from virginia this weekend so hopefully I can get it back together monday and ride back to school.

Maybe u will think about this, maybe not. BUT, since you are in the engine that far I would replace both chains, starter clutch and seriously consider replacing the bearing and rings. My thoughts on that, your already in there!!! Why put it back together with the old stuff and something could possibly go wrong later??? Do a minor rebuild, then get started on your freshly tuned up CBR, and don't worry about it for years!!! Esp depending on the mileage!! You have a new looking bike, and it would be almost all new internally too! Isn't that the trick?? To enjoy riding it for a long time, instead of having to fix little things here and there??? Just a thought for you.
