Default 1000f-j Headlight Bulb Retaining Clip - is this right??

Hi Folks

After having my dipped beam blow, I have replaced the bulb, but thought the retaining clip was damaged. As I can't find a picture of one and should really have removed the top fairing to make life easier so I could see exactly what I was doing, could anyone confirm if this is what the retaining clip should look like, or is it broken?

I thought the clip should be a continuous W shape, or am I wrong?

I have attached four pics from different angles.

Cheers, Steve

Not broken - however the bracket at the headlight case may or may not be !
Probably not I think it just got worked out of it somehow.

One end clips in to retain it

The U is where it's hinged
the "half looking piece also still functions
as a "stay" in the bulb "ring" when the other longer leg
is latched in.

Thanks Sprock, I'll take another look a it in the morning, but this time I'll remove the upper fairing to make it easier to see what I'm doing.

Cheers, Steve

Might be an idea to change both the headlight bulbs while you're in there Steve, save you a PITA job later down the line

Looks good to me.

lower right in picture #4.

Working up both sides away from the U, the sides put pressure on the bulb body.

The upper left side of the picture shows the ring shaped tang that you would need to push in and capture with the hook on the bike.

This LINK is for installing H-4 bulbs in these bikes without purchasing adapter rings.

Easy eh? :con fused:
I've no idea what he just said either.

One thing for sure though...... getting to the head lights on these bikes is a pain in the ****. You have to be in the mood, for sure!

steve.zodiac, if you have it apart, take a good look at it and remember it. I change my bulbs buy standing on the side of the bike facing the rear and reaching in and doing the job blindly. I do not take anything apart. I have the feel and know what I'm touching.

It's tight and awkward but can be done.
