HID vs Silverstars
ORIGINAL: XtraLights®, Inc
HID Advantages
3X Brigther & more consistent illumination of the road, and increases comfort & reduces fatigue when driving at night
Produces blue-white light that is safer because it is closer to natural daylight
10X Longer Lasting. No need to replace for life of the vehicle
35% less power consumption, thus generate much less heat during operation
HID vs. Halogen Technologies
HID lighting improves durability by 10 times as road vibrations can cause damage to halogen filament, but there is nothing to break inside HID bulb. These light sources also produce a blue-white light that is safer because it is closer to natural daylight.
The color temperature is more than 5000K compared to 2300K for halogen. The light output from a 35W HID Xenon lamp is 300% more light than a 55W halogen bulb. The HID Xenon system will also consume much less power from your vehicles electrical system and generate much less heat during operation.

my apoligies MgA_ODEN. I was going off the info I read from other members here. I never looked into the HIDs because I feel that $30 or $40 is enough money for lights. I'll do my home work next time [sm=bangbang.gif]
So anyone out there have HIDs and did you notice less ability to see changes in road?
Willing to pay the $300 for safety....just want to make sure is the smartest way to go
thanks in advance

With any standard filament bulb you get a nice glob of light about 30 feet in front of the bike - maybe 50 feet with the brights. With the HIDs you get light in the bushes on the side of the road; you get light waaaaaay down the road; you light up street signs about a mile away. It's just not possible to compare the two. I use the HID for my bright also and the biggest complaint is that it takes about 15 secs to warm up. Of course once they're warmed up they work like normal lights.

A buddy of mine put HID lights for dim and high beams on his 954 and the light was amazing. It didn't take anytime for the light bulb to turn on, it turns on immediately it just gets brighter over the course of about 5 seconds. It was pretty cool because you get that line of light so you don't blind other riders in front of you, and the high beams were insane.
If you have to buy all that stuff brand new, I don't think it makes a $260 difference. Rock the silverstars unless you got money to burn.

It is so strange to me that I keep getting this statement when it comes to lights....but a slip-on........hell yeah I'll pay $500 more!!
just weird, especially from Honda owners.......if it was a Yamaha or Suzuki...I would get it but think strange here
thanks for all the input guys...I truly do appreciate it
I'm going HID....the safety is worth the $250 extra to me...if saves going down 1 time -- way paid for plus
