frame slider question
I have frame sliders on my new 06 600rr. They are a plastic like material, and originally, I wanted to replace them because I couldn't believe that this light feeling plastic would protect my bike. Well, a few days ago while visiting my parents, my dad backed into my bike and knocked it over on its side. The slider held up and buckled slightly, absorbing the brunt of the impact.....nothing damaged except for a little scuff on my mirror.
No matter what slider you put on, you are going to have to drill a hole through the fairing. (which sucks to line up right). I suggest taking it to a dealer to do it. So if they mess up, they have to replace the fairing. My dealer only charged me 50.00 to install them, and it was perfect.
I can't remember what brand they were though. They were pretty generic looking. I'll let you know if I find out what they are.

I got vortex sliders on my bike and I like them alot. I did it myself. Its not as bad as people make it out to be as long as you have patience and take your time. Someone posted a frame sliders how to in the do it yourself section I think.
Spring loaded sliders are the only ones that make sense IMHO. Traditional sliders will absorb some of the impact just because they are plastic, but the brunt of the force is transferred directly into the frame of your bike. Personally, I'd rather lose my fairing than risk tweaking/twisting my frame. Bad Phish spring loaded sliders are the way to go.

As far as installing them, the simple way to perfectly line up the hole is to use a laser level. There are many explanations if you do a search, but more or less with the level on a tripod or stepstool or something, you line it up with your fairings off so that that the laser level beam is pointed directly at the bolthead you will remove to install your sliders. Put the fairing on, mark the spot where the light is, remove and hole cut.
