slipper clutch?

Lookin to do some upgrades to my 06' 1000rr. What exactly does a slipper clutch do? Which is the best for the 06 1k? Thanks

Slippers allow you to drop gearing / downshift...Say go from 5th to 2nd without locking up the rear tire, it just kind of slips in without causing a slide of the rear tire.
