Sorry if this is in the wrong place, but i was looking for help and guidance throughout the paint process of my bike. It currently has all of the factory paint on it, and i need help with the prep process. I am not a professional and it will most likely be a spray bomb job of black or OD green. If any body could help guide through the process of getting ready for paint and best method of painting the bike and repairing some plastics that have been abused over 22 years

I found this on Fireblades.org last night http://www.fireblades.org/forums/how...pray-cans.html He doesn't guide you but it says what you need to prepping.

Hope it helps

Used to do this professionally, happy to help if you need any advice. Black is a bugger unless your fairings are gonna be perfect as it shows up everything! start by tracing any decals onto tracing paper, this will help if you need them re-making. Strip them all off with some heat (hairdryer or better a heat gun) Tank ones will be laquered over and find the best neatest way to remove is with a single blade razor in one downwards movement after heating. Then you need to flat every thing down and deal with any damage (can advise how if you want) flat wet with 400 grit wetanddry paper with a splash of detergent in the water- this helps remove any waxy deposits and helps paper to slide. If you're not priming entire panel flat with a scotchbrite pad (scourer) wet until there are no shiny areas -this is to ensure the paint has a key and won't flake off later.
